Green Is Trending Says Universal As It Unveils Newstalgia Whole Home Furniture Line

HIGH POINT – Universal Furniture’s big reveal at High Point Market was its new “Newsalgia” furniture line, a collection of 50 items spanning the bedroom, dining, occasional and upholstery categories.

Like its name suggests, newstalgia aims to feel both familiar and brand-new.

“From spindle beds to trifold vanity mirrors, everything old is new again,” said Vice President of Marketing Neil MacKenzie “With timeless designs that have been updated with contemporary finishes, we created Newstalgia with the traditional customer of today in mind.”

Whites, blues, natural wood tones, grays, and dark greens, which the company claims is growing in popularity, are just a few of the many finish options available for the line.

“Green is trending,” director of product development Furniture Today was informed by Shannon Lookabill. “There is undoubtedly a rise in demand for it.”

The Bobbin spindle bed, Flora nightstand, Libby flip-top kitchen table, Miley wing chair, and Paxton tufted sofa are some of the collection’s standout pieces. Blues and greens are frequently used.

According to Universal, the line’s readiness for the forthcoming STURDY tip-over act is another major draw. STURDY, a bill that would mandate that furniture adhere to specific stability standards, is currently making its way to the Senate. It will become a law if it is approved there.

The dressers and chests from Newstalgia have an interlocking drawer mechanism that keeps multiple drawers from opening simultaneously in a row of drawers.

“This will put us ahead of the curve,” said Lookabill. “The weight will be removed from their drawers by other businesses. Not us.”

The mechanism is not created in-house but rather by a vendor. Lookabill claimed the mechanism is costly and raises the price of the product, but he did not specify how much.
