Samsung Bespoke Fridge Review 2023 – Is It Worth It

Samsung Bespoke Fridge Review
Read Time:9 Minute, 30 Second

Is this Samsung Bespoke refrigerator the BEST fridge ever created? The idea was tested.

I’ve owned four refrigerators in the last six years for reasons I won’t go into here; two of them were brand new and are some of the best refrigerators for homes available right now. After spending the last few months with the Samsung Bespoke 4-door French door refrigerator, I can say with certainty that if you’re looking for a large, contemporary, adaptable refrigerator that isn’t the same old boring variety of lifeless gray metal exterior, this is the fridge for you.

The Samsung custom refrigerator has thoughtfully designed storage space. With two long, powerful LEDs at the top front, it is well-lit and has designated spots for all of the items.

Samsung Bespoke Fridge Price

This thing ain’t cheap, costing $3,698.97 on the street with the panels included. However, Samsung has a reputation for setting prices for its products high initially before rapidly slashing them, and the same is true in this case. The Bespoke 4-door French Door fridge costs $2,498.96 as of the time of this writing if you select the same specifications we did. This is about $500 less than what it cost us three months ago, which was only four months after it was released. Although still expensive, that is much more reasonable compared to other refrigerators with comparable features.

Fridge Design

Samsung Bespoke Fridge Review 2023 - Is It Worth It

The Samsung Bespoke appliance line is a highly customizable series that includes flat panels available in a variety of colors that can frequently be combined to create a much more unique look that can be tailored to fit — or stand out in — just about any modern kitchen. Due to the panels’ simple interchangeability, their appearance can be changed to, say, match upcoming cabinet repaints.

For the French Door refrigerator panels, colors are generally of the soft pastel variety (though the “Sunrise Yellow” and “Clementine” options are notably bolder) and most are glass with a glossy finish, though there is one matte glass option in “Grey,” and if you’re concerned about breakage — as I had, you might want to (more on that later) — four steel colors complete the selection for a total of 11 different options to mix and match.

You can choose the color for each of the four doors. If you really want your kitchen to show what a crazy maniac you are, you could even use a different color for each. We went with pink and “morning blue,” so ours looks like it’s made of cotton candy, though I did try, reader, to convince my partner to go with “Emerald” and “Sunrise Yellow”, because go Go ahead and pack your things. I like to think I came pretty close. Overall, I really like how the colors look. They remind me of the cheerier, brighter colors of vintage refrigerators, which Frigidaire and Smeg are now nostalgically recreating, while still maintaining a contemporary appearance and sensibility.

This series from Samsung follows a minimalist design philosophy, so there are no exterior handles to be seen. It looms large in a small- to medium-sized kitchen and cuts an intimidating, monolithic figure with its sharp, boxy corners. The 23 cubic foot version is 28 6/8 inches deep, while the 29 cubic foot version is 34.25 inches deep. Even though we didn’t choose it, the Family Hub model has a sizable touchscreen built into the right-hand French door that runs Tizen OS and allows you to view the contents of the refrigerator without ever opening it. However, I’ve never been comfortable connecting appliances to my network because of their frequently lax web security, so I only did it here for the review.

Two lengthy, bright LEDs at the top front of the Bespoke refrigerator provide ample interior lighting. The temperature of the freezer and that movable middle drawer, which Samsung refers to as a FlexZone and which we use to store cold snacks, is displayed in a vertical strip on the right side of the appliance. The ice maker and auto-fill pitcher’s basic controls are also located here. The two crisper drawers have plenty of room, and there is also enough shelving to have three levels, with a useful slide-back portion on the middle shelf, in case you need to store something particularly tall. Three shelves can be found in the right-hand door, two of which are deep enough to hold an entire gallon of milk plus some extra, which is very convenient.

I also like other small details. The French doors, for instance, cannot fully open in the position I have it in. Normally, this would prevent the crisper drawers from opening all the way, but this refrigerator is made to allow you to do so. This appliance’s design incorporates a subtle but important detail all throughout.

Features

Operating Volume

According to Samsung, the operating sound level of the refrigerator is 39dB, which is comparable to a quiet computer. Being unable to really hear any operational noise, we thought this was high. The door alarm, which consists of three sets of barely audible double pings, doesn’t grate if the fridge door is open while you’re browsing.

Running Cost

The total annual energy consumption for this refrigerator is 120 KWh/pa and it has an E rating on the new 2021 energy rating scale (A++ on the old scale). Depending on your payment method, supplier, and location in the UK, we estimate that operating the appliance would cost about 18 pounds per year.

Control Panel

An accessible touchscreen panel is used to operate the refrigerator, which is located at the top of the cabinet. A temperature range of 1°C to 7°C is available for the refrigerator. There is also a power cool setting, which causes the fan to run at maximum speed for 2.5 hours to cool recently purchased items.

The touchscreen also allows you to lock the touchscreen itself, disable the door alarm, and set vacation mode, which lowers the refrigerator’s temperature to 17°C.

Cool Down & Warm Up

The fridge has Samsung’s “All-Around Cooling” system, which means that every part of the cabinet is kept equally chilled. This consistency is clear because there was no temperature difference between the top and bottom of the refrigerator.

The cool-down time was difficult to test because of our low winter atmospheric temperatures, but the refrigerator reached 5°C in less than an hour. The fridge was still at 1°C 24 hours after being turned off, again keeping in mind the cool ambient temperature.

Interior Lighting

Three 15cm by 3.5cm LEDs are used to illuminate the interior of the cabinet: one at the top and two on the sides. We thought the side lights could have been a little bit longer for more even illumination throughout the interior, even though they do a good job of lighting the space.

Fridge Capacity

19 20-liter shopping bags will fit inside the fridge’s 387 liters of storage space for food. Samsung employs its “SpaceMax technology” to eke out the most space from the fridge footprint by making the cabinet walls as thin as possible.

In addition to the vegetable box’s top, there are four cabinet shelves. To make room for taller objects to stand on the shelf below, the third shelf from the top can be folded back in half. Along with that, there is a metal wine rack with five grooves for bottles.

The fact that you can only use Samsung’s configuration and cannot move the shelves up or down bothered us.

Two vegetable drawers are located below the shelves. The top one has a manual humidity dial, which seems a little rudimentary. In a perfect world, we’d like to see a more accurate digital control at this cost.

Each of these drawers has a sizable amount of storage space, though. We made the bottom drawer to be 24 litres and the top drawer to be roughly 23.6 litres.

In a test, we managed to cram 1 kg of carrots, 2 kg of potatoes, 2 gem lettuces, a pack of piccolo tomatoes, and a bunch of celery into the top drawer with about 60% of the space remaining.

The bottom bin had about 40% extra capacity despite being slightly bigger. The dimensions don’t work quite as well because it is deeper and narrower to make room for the compressor at the back, which seems counterintuitive.

Door Storage

A dairy balcony with a full-width lid and another full-width balcony are located at the top of the door. Both are simple for a person who is shorter than the average adult to access.

Then, there are two sets of half-width balconies, the upper set of which can be adjusted upward by 15 cm and the lower set of which can be adjusted downward by the same amount. There is a second full-width balcony at the bottom.

Four 4-pinters or two 6-pinters of milk from the grocery store can be stored on the lower balcony. A 6-pinter or two 4-pinters can fit on each of the lower set of half-width balconies. 32 pints of milk could fit inside this door in total.

Three 450g jars can fit on the higher set of half-width balconies with room to spare, and there is also more height available if you need it for taller jars.

There is one six-egg tray in the refrigerator.

Bespoke Colour and Finish Options

So far in the UK, there are two panel finishes available in the customisable Bespoke Studio range: glass, and a matt metal finish called “cotta”.

There are five glass colors and three cotta colors available for the larder fridge and freezer. You can choose from five cotta colors and seven glass colors for the refrigerator and freezer. Various glass colours have a different level of refraction: “satin” is a soft silky glass, “glam” is a glossy glass, and “clean” is a high-gloss glass.

On the other hand, not all models come in all colors and finishes. Additionally, determining the current color options is confusing and challenging. You should also keep in mind that different finishes and colors come at different price points.

Glass door options for the refrigerator and freezer include Clean Black, Clean White, Satin Beige, Satin Sky Blue, and Glam Navy. The colors for the cotta doors are Sky Blue, Lavender, and Beige. (Read More: Why Does My Fridge Smell Bad – How to Get Rid of It)

However, the Bespoke refrigerator and freezer come in extra colors in both finishes. Glam Peach and Glam Lavender are additional colors available in addition to the glass range’s colors, and a Cotta White is part of the cotta range as well.

A grey glass and a rose pink glass, as well as a variety of steel finish options in champagne, navy, and matt black, appear to be part of Samsung’s plans to expand the color palette.

Verdict

A stunning appliance that will give your kitchen a touch of interior design is the Samsung Bespoke tall one-door fridge in Glam Navy Glass. It is efficient, uses little energy, and has excellent storage capacity. You won’t find the newest refrigeration technology, such as digital humidity control or switch zones for the fridge and freezer, here.
